Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder also known as ADHD or ADD is a common mental condition. It affects between 3-5% of American children.
ADHD affects children's concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness.
Symptoms of ADHD
- difficulty keeping the mind on any one thing
- skipping over details
- getting bored with a task before it’s completed
- making careless mistakes
- being easily distracted from a task, lesson, or conversation
- difficulty listening when directly addressed
- disorganization and forgetfulness
- difficulty following instructions or finishing tasks
Help Your Child
Although it is really unknown what causes ADHD you can help your child. Studies show that the brains of children with ADHD just may function a bit differently, therefore you can make it easier for your child.
- Make a schedule
- Write down house rules and possible punishments
- Make sure directions are clear
- Reward Good Behavior
- Set routines
- Encourage effort
- Inform teachers and parents
